As November settles into the Douro Valley, our family-run winery, Marmelão, takes on a special charm. Nestled in the picturesque village of Provesende, the landscape transforms as vibrant reds, oranges, and golden yellows paint the vineyards. One of the most enchanting sights this season is our persimmon tree, a landmark of fall color and flavor.
Located near our tasting area, the persimmon tree adds a distinct autumnal touch with its lush red foliage and ripe orange fruit, inviting visitors to connect with nature’s cycles. The persimmons are not only beautiful but also represent the season’s bounty, providing a taste of autumn for those who visit us. This fruit, with its rich, sweet flavor, has become a favorite among guests who savor it during tastings and cooking classes, adding a seasonal touch to Marmelão’s offerings.
Our small, organic winery is carefully restored, bringing modern touches to traditional roots. We’ve spent this past year restoring old wooden tables and updating landscaping to create a welcoming, intimate space for wine tastings, traditional Portuguese cooking classes, and family-style lunches. All of these experiences are steeped in authenticity, allowing guests to feel part of the valley’s unique charm.
Under the supervision of my mother, Iva, and my wife, Clara, every detail is carefully considered to make Marmelão a serene retreat that feels like home. We’re excited to welcome visitors for our official opening in 2025 to experience the flavors, sights, and soul of the Douro Valley. So, if you’re looking to embrace the season, join us next fall for an unforgettable experience under the persimmon tree, where the colors of autumn come alive in every glass and every taste.
