My name is Jorge Miguel Matias.
I live and work in the Douro Valley, where my days revolve around wine, food, movement through the landscape, and the slow craft of building things that feel real.

After many years working in wine tourism, I chose to step away from guided tours and focus fully on a small set of personal projects: O’Porco, a wine and tapas bar in Pinhão; Marmelão, a family-run winery in Provesende dedicated exclusively to pét-nat wine; and a small e-bike rental operation, designed for independent exploration of the Douro.

All three are rooted in the same idea: simplicity, autonomy, and respect for place.

From Food & Wine to the Douro

I was born in Porto and graduated in Zootechnical Engineering from the University of Évora in 1991. My professional life began in the food industry and catering, including owning and running a restaurant.

After the 2011 economic crisis forced its closure, I reinvented myself—first working in tourism, and later settling permanently in the Douro Valley in 2014. What began as work eventually became a way of life.

Over time, my focus shifted away from guiding people and toward creating conditions—places and tools that allow others to experience the Douro on their own terms.

O’Porco

In 2018, I opened O’Porco in Pinhão.

Originally conceived as a small support space for my work, it quickly became something else: a relaxed, intimate wine and tapas bar where locals and visitors sit at the same table.

Today, I run O’Porco myself.
There are no reservations. Guests arrive, find a seat if there’s space, and stay as long as they like. The atmosphere is informal, the food is honest, the wine is carefully chosen—and time is never rushed.

O’Porco is a place to slow down, not to plan ahead.

Marmelão

Marmelão is a small, family project in Provesende, in the heart of the Douro.

Here, I’m slowly restoring old spaces, working the land, and shaping a winery focused exclusively on pét-nat wine. The work is manual and often done alongside my family.

To deepen my understanding of wine, I completed an Oenology degree at UTAD (Vila Real) in 2022.
At Marmelão, the approach is minimal intervention, close observation, and patience. The wines will speak for themselves when they are ready.

E-Bike Rental

Alongside O’Porco and Marmelão, I also offer e-bike rental for those who want to explore the Douro independently.

The Douro is best understood at a slow pace, following secondary roads, vineyards, and villages that cars often miss. E-bikes allow that freedom—without guides, fixed routes, or schedules.

It’s not about performance or speed.
It’s simply a way to move through the landscape with curiosity and time.

A Different Way of Working

I don’t believe in shortcuts, mass production, or rushed experiences.

Whether it’s a glass of wine, a shared table, a bottle still resting in the cellar, or a road climbed quietly on an e-bike, everything I do is shaped by patience, consistency, and presence.

This website reflects that same philosophy: simple, honest, and grounded in place.
